"Mel taught me so much about food and training and for the first time in my life I felt happy and confident in my own skin, no longer needing food or alcohol to numb any emotional issues I had. I'll be forever grateful to her."
It was the beginning of September 2011, I was getting married in April the following year and knew that I wanted to lose a bit of weight and tone up for the wedding as most brides do.
My sister Mel, who is a Metabolic Precision certified trainer, nutritionist and running coach challenged me to take on a 12 week body transformation. I have no idea why I agreed, I'd always hated exercise, I only did it because I loved food and didn't want to get 'fat'.
Up until that point I was consuming a lot of highly processed, sugary and fatty foods, I know I was definitely addicted to sugar and a lot of it was emotional eating because deep down I was unhappy with my life. Come the weekend, I’d try and forget about it all with a few too many drinks and spend Sunday in bed eating plenty of greasy hangover food.
Regardless of all the food I was consuming, I have never been 'overweight'. I had some extra lumps and bumps that I wanted to get rid of but mainly I was seriously lacking energy, general well being and depressed outlook on life.
Those 12 weeks opened my eyes to so many things - that the best way to lose weight was not to starve myself but to fuel my body with nutritious and delicious whole foods and PLENTY of them, that the number on the scale doesn't matter, that slogging it out for hours and hours of cardio would not change my body shape.
She taught me so much about food and training and for the first time in my life I felt happy and confident in my own skin, no longer needing food or alcohol to numb any emotional issues I had. I'll be forever grateful to her.
And so I got addicted to my amazing new lifestyle and have never looked back!
